Rolled up shirt sleeves

How, exactly, do you guys roll up your shirt sleeves on a hot day? I've never understood how to do it and make it look good.

First fold your shirt cuffs back. Then carefully roll your sleeves using your shirt cuffs to measure the exact width, this way your sleeves on each side will be even. The higher you roll your sleeves the more you look like a juvenile delinquent. Tattoos are optional.

Fold the sleeve up in one go, such that the cuff is where you want the sleeve to end on the arm, you're looking at the inside if the cuff. This is one fold, so there's a lot of sleeve hanging. Crease the bottom of this excess with your fingers, smoothing the fabric. fold the excess up (two layers) to the bottom of the cuff. You've just folded the excess in half, sort of. Repeat that with the new excess of four layers, and keep going until you have one cuff width or less of excess. Fold the cuff down over this excess and button (or otherwise secure) as closely as possible while still leaving enough room to get your arm through.

I didn't realize that the picture I just posted would also answer to the "rolled sleeve" thread. Thanks for noticing.

I'll have to go through my old photos and see just how many more show rolled sleeves. I would suspect that working men have been rolling their sleeves since sleeves were first invented. Real life is not necessarily what one sees in the movies.

Thanks guys, I used resortes technique and I got the hang of it. I rolled it up to just below the elbow. I'll forgo the tattoos though.

I do too. Folded up about three-quarters of an inch twice. I believe that's how it was done in the 1950s. It even makes a plain t-shirt look vintage.

The majority of my shirts have double cuffs, but this summer I have been rolling them up in rather an untidy fashion so I look like Spencer Tracy or something. I try to roll them up smartly but they still end up looking a mess. Also the sleeves near my elbows are becoming worn as I will put my elbows on the desk when I am working. Elbow patches on shirts?

If you go by my old drafting teacher you roll your cuff up once or twice. It keeps the graphite from dirtying your shirt cuff. If you go by my old scout master, you roll it up above the elbow. You don't wear out the elbow of the sleeves and it looks like you are ready for anything. As a scouter, I prefer to roll them up above the elbow.

I wish my Scout master would have had the sense to teach me something useful like that! (Or anything useful for that matter)

Unfortunately, my Boy Scout troop spent the majority of its time playing Dungeons&Dragons while a handful of us scouts went stir crazy, got bored and caused trouble because we had nothing to do. Needless to say, I was eventually 'discharged' from the scouts based on this merit.
