Question about pants pockets

Okay everybody, I've searched around but haven't found any answers. Regarding pleated pants, pockets are typically either on-seam or slash/slant (or whatever the name is). My question: is either pocket style considered more dressy or more casual than the other?

There's a lot of naysaying about slash pockets, but the fact is they actually do make one appear slimmer. I don't think they can be regarded as more or less formal than seam pockets. They were simply the style for a time.
