This band had to change their name to "The Three Caps" (their former name) for the UK, as there was another UK band already going out as the Capitols....

Because he's got it!

When he first started out, there was a lot of T-Bone Walker in his playing. After a few years, he developed his own style, and what a style it is. He is instantly recognizable, even if he is playing someone else's record. Plus, he is a heck of a nice guy.

Thanks, HD. Jimmy Johnson sings in that high tenor. I used to think he was straining to get those high notes, but when I first saw him live, I saw how effortlessly he sings. It's natural for him.

His voice isn't quite as high in this song as some of them he did 30 or so years ago. As I remember, Ashes In My Ash Tray may be a good example of his voice when he was much younger.

Here is Ashes In My Ashtray as he (Jimmy Johnson) did it 30+ years ago. He is a short guy, who just sings as easy as if he were walking down the street. I saw him in small bar in Chicago about 10 years after this song was recorded. Maybe in the late 80s.

The Carter Brothers (Roman, Albert & Jerry, along with Jimmy Morris) were originally from Garland, Alabama, but moved to Pacioma, California, before coming to the attention of Stan Lewis of Jewel Records out of Shreveport, Louisiana. This was a hit for them in the summer of '65....

I remember Fontella Bass from the old days. Nice tune. Reminds me of the R&B stations in the early 70s Thanks for finding it. She died in December.

Fontella recorded a few numbers with Bobby McClure. This one, from 1965, is the most well known.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of chemistry going on between them, though........
