Dobbs with snap-down brim

This Dobbs just arrived last evening and I was very pleased with the condition. It has a 2 1/4" snap-down brim and a 5 3/4" crown depth, 2" burgundy grosgrain ribbon. The leather sweatband is still in good shape and has a taped seam. The size tag has come off and looks like it use to gold as the edges have a patina color. I'm guessing it's from the 30s but Brad will probably contradict me.

Nope, you hit the nail on the head, it's indeed a '30s hat. A very nice one, at that!

Well not new because I have this for quite a time

I think it is quite old because of the sweatband bow and the embossed Stetson mark. The most stingy hat I have with 3" brim. Probably will not see much daylight because of moth holes and short brim.

Knox Tom-n-Jerry with Sharks gill ribbon

I just got this grey Knox Tom-n Jerry a few days ago. Short of some light moth grazing on the bottom on the brim it's in excellent condition. It has a 2 1/2" brim with a wide welted edge and a 5 1/2" crown depth. The crown is wrapped in a wide 2 1/8" blue grey grosgrain ribbon with sharks-gill bow. Looks like it was originally a fairly expensive hat with a $17.50 price tag. The felt has a velour like finish and is very soft. Looks like someone might have tried to sell it for $4.99 which is hand written on the price tag. Not sure of the age, Brad help me out.

Borsalino Lontra (otter)

This is the fourth hat I've purchased in the triangular box - all have been stored since purchase, never worn. Why did all these souvenirs journey from Italy never to see the light of day?

Lightweight felt (hat is 2.9 ounces) in a very lovely doeskin finish. Felt is the color of Hershey's cocoa. A basting stitch remains along the sweatband seam - don't believe I've seen that before. The onionskin paper over the crown has been removed, which reveals a portrait of Columbus (Colon) - perhaps in celebration of the 500th anniversary of his birth in 1951? The dating would be about right. This box is the earlier style with overfitting box top and large Antica Casa imprint. I will post more photos in the Borsalino thread once I have a chance to steam and block it.

Got myself a straw hat

Fínally found one that does not come associated (over here at the costas) with shorts, sun fried red calves above white socks in sandals.

Absolutely pristine, never worn!

For the b&p lovers; comes with box, the handwritten replacement data label still inside the headband ánd original bill of sales dated March 20, 1956!

Huertecilla - nice milan. I have a grey one too, one of my favorite summer hats. I'm looking forward to our 2.5 weeks of summer to get mine out! You're lucky, I'm sure you can wear straw hats the majority of the year if you choose to.

John Emig Top Hat

Through the incredible generosity of a fellow lounge member, this hat arrived today, a couple of miles from where it was sold 150 years ago.

Excuse the long post, but I got excited about this one. First the hat box with unbelievable colors.

Then the hat, 7 1/4" tall, 2 1/4" brim, silk plush

note narrow ribbon with non-centered bow location.

Unlike other top hats I own, the under brim is also covered in plush. which looks very much like fur. The sweatband reed is brass wire.

Simple tacking stitches hold down the narrow ribbon at the brim edge.

How it looks on.

A Jacob Emig operated a hat store in downtown Buffalo in 1844 - (population 26,000).

John Emig is shown in the 1859 register.

By 1865, the store has moved a few storefronts north on Main Street, dating this hat circa 1860, earlier than 1865.

Where the storefront would have stood today.

It is easily the oldest hat I've had by forty years.
