These really cry out for a Mr. B collar...the wiiide spread that rolls like a buttondown, popularized by Billy Eckstine...and a geegaw tie chain, and a sharp gabardine suit with a low roll lapel.

Love those Mr. B collars. Desi Arnaz wore them sometimes on I LOVE LUCY. It's extremely hard to find vintage cotton dress shirts with that collar. I stumbled across two of them a while back; I wore those shirts 'til they fell apart.

I personally think they look kindof neat, but am not fond of the patterned ones. Patterned ones are too busy, but the pleats can add some interesting and unusual detail to a solid-colored tie or one with fewer details:
