Like Sam, I had a modern Stetson Stratoliner from Hatco that did that after a few rain drops. The hat wasn't completely soaked but was just hit with a few drops. I steamed it and gave it a good brushing and it helped a little but was still noticeable. Since the felt swelled only where the drops landed I think maybe it might not have been so noticeable if the entire hat had been wet. I thought about completely misting the hat with distilled water but never got around to it.
