Yeah, it's remarkable that he could come up with a gem like "Peace On Earth" after his relatively undistinguished directing stints at Warners, then M-G-M. (At least many of those M-G-M cartoons were beautifully animated - they were right behind Disney in quality during the 30s - even if they didn't leave much of an impression.)

M-G-M animation didn't really take off until a couple of years later, when Tex Avery arrived and Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera took over Harmon's old unit for their Tom and Jerry shorts. The competition between Avery's unit and Hanna/Barbera's led to some all-time great cartoons!
