Rob, if I’m not mistaken, that looks similar to a ‘50s Willys
jeep which I purchased when the bug hit me about wanting
a Woody station wagon. But the woodies were very expensive.

I paid $50 for that Willys.
Although the body was in good condition,it was missing the gas
tank and title.
A makeshift tank comprising of a bucket and a hose
made it possible to drive it home somehow.

Hahaha ...

The floor boards were so rusted that I could see the driveshaft. I had to make sure my shoes were tied very well before driving.

Drove a '63 beetle with floor boards so rusted I could see
the road below.
On freeways, any vehicles passing by would sway my
buggy into the next lane.
Windshield wipers that worked when they felt like it.

But that beetle always started in all kinds of weather and
best of all, it was paid for.

That's a pretty ingenious repurposing of the sign. A lot better than the usual deal of slapping white latex housepaint over the logo and stenciling on something else.

^^^ The dog drinking from the bucket on the island reminds me of a basset hound that used to wander around town in warm weather. He would stop in every morning to see me on his way by. Pretty soon I had a water bowl out for him. He would stop for a drink and lay in front of the fan for a bit then move on to wherever he went next. My boss at the time hated it, but he gave up complaining about it pretty quickly when it had no effect.

The last one in town here was an insurance office for many years, Now I see a sign for massage therapy out front... times they are a changing.

I did pull into a station last week when I was out of town and a kid came out and asked me if I wanted him to pump my gas. I could not believe that, its been longer than I can remember

My sentiment entirely, some of you will have seen this before. Here's a similar situation whereby the building was rescued and turned into a private dwelling. Who wouldn't want to live there?

I'd love to do this and live in it. Plenty of garage space for the tools and toys too. Heaven on Earth!

However, the wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary Saturday before last by taking a train ride, and I apparently picked up something from someone while riding the rails.

I'd be interested to know exactly what that "El Paso" logo is supposed to represent. A flaming match-stick? A chocolate dip-top cone? A rectangular-headed mascot with a tall, pointy pompadour? A rampaging jalapeno?

A doomed Texaco in Detroit's Black Bottom neighborhood, back in 1950. Black Bottom and Paradise Valley were the center of African-American commerce and culture in Detroit and were completely demolished and replaced with freeway in the 1950s.
