That's wonderful stuff you have there. But whenever I think of Holland in that time, I can't stop thinking of the difficult times people were living through. I always think of beautiful little Audrey Hepburn coming out of there atthe age of 15 suffering badly from malnutrition (as everyone must have been).

Yes absolutely.
I have chosen 1943 to be the date in my house, thats before things got really bad but still there are little details here and there that show things arent easy either.
Although the furniture looks rather modern, in 1943 its already a decade out of fashion.
At the end of the war part of the Netherlands went trough the hungerwinter, one of the most terrible things that happened during the war in the west of europe, people dying of hunger in the streets, canibalism, etc.

OMG canibalism? in Holland? Must have been truly horrendous. I've heard of terrible things happening during the war, I haven't heard of that tho .... but I suppose anything can happen under those conditions, well, when you come to think of it, anything can happen under normal conditions
