I'm loving the EM too, much better than Lily Lolo. the texture is finer. not a fan of the All Smiles blush though, its a bit orangey for my skin. (I wish they had a colour more like MAC's Dame - thats the only blush for me....)

so far I've tried the "Fair/medium" and "multi tasking neutral" foundations in intensive and I think the fair/medium is better. I have yet to try the "Fair" alone, might do that tomorrow.

The sunlight under eye concealer is wonderful, really does cover up dark circles and the tester size they send lasts ages!

I would really recommend trying their sample kit, 3 foundations, a blush and a concealer and you just pay postage. the sizes are pretty generous too.

AllaboutEve, I'm satisified with my synthetic Lily Lolo Kabuki brush, but I don't know how it'll hold up in the long run.

Idledame, Jane Iredale is definitely a very, very good mineral foundation! Unfortunately it's also a lot more expensive, maybe because of the SPF. Lily Lolo's products don't have SPF, I don't know if Everyday Minerals' do...

ShrinkingViolet and Aorta, I'm curious about what's this powder is for, is it just for preventing the skin from shining, or does it have coverage? The colors look kinda funny, compared to your regular palette. Especially the blues and violets throw me off! It's also kinda expensive.

Drugstore version

I have been using the inexpensive Prescriptives brand from the drugstore the past few years (I use the pressed powder for my everyday purse compact, instead of my precious pearl powder) and found their lightest shade, "translucent" too dark, but they now have a "translucent light" which is perfect!
I have also used the Jane Iredale but it is so expensive, and actually I am finding the Prescriptives to be a bit better feeling overall.
And it does have SPF, but since I am always wearing #70 block as well, it's kind of redundant.

Prescriptives cheap brand at a drugstore? What's the exact name of the brand, please? The only Prescriptives I know of is sold at Macy's, Nordstrom's, Dillard's and the like. Thanks.

Okeh, but Prescriptives is an Estee Lauder company and Physicians Formula is its own company, and a good one. I simply wasn't aware that Prescriptives had a drugstore brand, so I asked for the exact name.
As for SPF, dermatologists generally don't believe a typical application of mineral powder makeup can provide adequate sun protection and recommend sun protection in a liquid form, but we all probably already knew that.

and i agree she must have been thinking of Physicians Formula or another brand .....

Actually it should have been in a different thread since it isn't mineral make-up but ordinary (rice?) powder. It's just a really really good formula that goes back to the 18th century. The violet and orchid shades are similar to ones I've seen in 20s and 30s face powder ads. I think they are for more sophisticated evening looks.

To shiny makeup?

Finding out that Everyday Mineral offered a Free Sample Makeup Kit got me around to try mineral makeup out.

I am extremely happy with the blush I ordered. I use it as eye colour. I matches an old favorite of mine witch now is impossible to get hold of (actually that was also really a blush). I was ecstatic when I discovered this! It looks very pink and sparkely in the box, but goes on me as a lovely matte rosy brown.

I am quite happy about the result of the mineral foundation. It doesn't give the total coverage I expected from all the raving about these products. But it certainly give more coverage and blending of my skincolour with a lot less product than anything other I have ever tried. So I am actually very happy with the amount of coverage. But I think it is to shiny. I like the matte look, so what the commercials call a healthy glow isn't for me I'm wondering if it will help against the shine to also order a Finishing Powders (but I guess these have the same ingredients as the foundation so I don't really get what is different with them?) or some rice powder to have over the mineral foundation? Or is the shine brand specific, so it would help to try another one?

Yes, I use face powder over mineral powder foundation. I either use mineral pressed powder (the mineral products brand I use is Mary Kay) or Coty Airspun powder over the mineral powder foundation. I don't like a shiny nose either.

And I may be imagining things, but I think my skin feels softer after removing the mineral makeup compared to after I hav taken off the liquid foundation. Maybe I need less makup remover for removing the mineral makeup....

What formula are you using? EM has different formulas, the "Original Glow" and "Semi Matte" might be a bit shiny, but the "Matte" and "Intensive" are quite matte.


And, Gingermore; Silk Dust is from EMs loose finishing powders, it's trasclucent, made of real silk and really helps matting your skin during the day! And, putting silk on my face feels pleasantly decadent!

They do! The same as all mineral foundations, as the ingredients provide a natural sunscreen. As it says in their FAQ, they aren't allowed to publish a figure, but it's probably around SPF15 as with many other brands.

Really? That's excellent, so it's actually the minerals themselves that provide the protection? I was just wondering because my Jane Iredale powder states a SPF, and it said nothing like that on the Lily Lolo powder.

I believe it's the zinc oxide that provides a barrier...but I am no expert!

Yes....and in the US (thats all I know about, but other places might have similar regulations) in order to -claim- the sunscreen on the packaging, the company has to pay for and go through what I understand is very expensive testing to determine precise SPF.

So Jane Iredale must have done so, and most other mineral companies lack the $ or have just decided that it is not a big enough selling point to justify the testing.

So its a labeling issue and in general not an actual sunscreen issue. (I say in general, only because for all I know there is one mineral makeup out there that somehow has 0 protection)
