I saw this on PBS sometime last year. It probably didn't help that I got in on part two without realizing it, but I found it dreary and depressing. To each their own...

There's some greatness in that series and the big historical sweep of the thing is enjoyable, but by the end it also seems rather pointless. I realize life can be pointless, but not always, and like a lot of things you get out what you put in; the "hero" notably doesn't put much in. Definitely worth watching (unless you're on ******* watch) but not worth watching again.
