Anyway, this is a good idea although I have never had an issue with my fly falling down before. Well at least not when sober

The other alternative, found on most golden-era fly zippers was to have a prong on the zipper pull so that when pressed down it "locked" the slider into the teeth of the zipper.

An outerwear version.

What a brilliantly simple idea. I've had a pair of pants or two whose zipper didn't want to stay up.

Those pronged zippers were still being made when I was a kid. I remember one on a pair of Sears "Toughskins" jeans I had.

I also remember them- I think it was on some old Wrangler jeans, but I may be mistaken.

Or you could just forgo the zipper route & use a button fly.

I haven't bought a new pair of jean in a couple of years but I seem to remember that those zippers have been in use on some jeans until very recently. Of the few jeans I still have at least three have this feature and they're not older than maybe five years.

Not sure if it is common here in the USA any more or not. I haven't owned or worn jeans in 5 years.

This thread made me immediately start fumbling around with the zipper on the trousers I'm wearing right now, and almost as quickly realize that I was sitting at my desk at work, and should therefore probably cease that activity. I went discreetly to the little boys room and looked in the mirror (my tummy obstructs a convenient direct view).
Much to my amazement, no tooth on the tag! :eusa_doh: In the immortal words of **** Martin, "I didn't know that!".
I was so used to the old zippers with the little tooth, that I hadn't even noticed they were missing all these years. I guess they became extinct when nylon zippers supplanted metal ones in the 70.
