How to get stain out of woolen trousers?

I recently discovered a frosting (??) stain on my 1940s pinstripe pants. I really don't feel like getting them dry cleaned at the moment. Does anyone know a home remedy for this? Thanks.

I use a microfiber cloth soaked (and wrung) out with warm water and a little Woolite. It may need 2-3 goes. The microfiber works as a very gentle abrasive and helps loosen the stains.

You don't have to take it to a dry cleaner but if there's one locally, you could show them the stain and just ask for their advice. Or you could dry clean it yourself. There are products on the market that are available retail, this link should help.

Using a microfibre cloth with a little water is a good idea, as long as the stain is just dry dirt and not a oily stain like grease or ink. In the latter case the use of water is not only ineffective but could also spread the stain further along the cloth.
