Just picked up this Rivett's London. I had no idea these jackets were this good. Everything about this jacket is quality. Can anyone date this jacket? My best guess would be 70s.

Interesting item. Rivetts were a very well respected retailer of leather motorcycle gear from 1950 until they were wound up in 2011. Their last listed complete accounts were apparently 2008, so they may have gone under as a result of the 2008 crash or simply the owner retired and had noone to leave the business to or for whatever reason didn't want to sell. They did back in the 50s until some time in the mid 70s, I believe, use the Highwayman brand, also at some point (70s, I think) Champion. They were mainly a retailer, so I *think* - but don't seem to be able to find out anywhere - they were made by someone else (not Lewis) for Rivetts as a house brand. Lewis bought the Highwayman properties in 1983, but the brand had fallen out of use some time before that (hence it was available for Aero who had actively been using it and established a legal right to it as a model name). I don't know when Rivetts started using their own name, but I believe (no evidence, though, this is supposition) that it was after they dropped use of the Highwayman label.

My gut instinct, given how "Americanised" this particular design is and the overall vibe, would be 1980s.... Rivetts were very much a seller of stuff for serious motorcyclists, and much after 1990 this style of jacket very much had disappeared as a popular style actually worn for motorcyclists: it was all mandarin collars, black zips, very hefty shoulder padding by then. Just a best guess, though, based on what I've seen of Brit jackets over the years.

My latest rabbit hole. Nothing fancy, but always wanted one of these. I like the fades and overall blue tone (assuming it's accurate) Collar looks a little worn, but with all the jackets I have, it's not going to get a lot of abuse:

So this is a change of pace for me. Early Vanson CR with "1" piece back w/kidney panel. Not free but not expensive either. Bought mostly as it is old-school Vanson Comp weight that appears to be in good, well broken in, grainy shape here. It's a "42" so rolling the dice if it will fit or not. Will need a new, main zip, unless Dena can repair the existing one (looks possible??)

Wil llikey get dunked in the bathtub or run on gentle cycle in washing machine - but has anyone tried this with Competition weight leather yet? How does it hold up? Or I'll let Dena do the full restoration. The back looks awesome to me, and I am very excited to recieve it soon!

Took a gamble on this as I've wanted a sherpa lined ranch coat for a while now. I was looking for a McGregor corduroy, but this suede design is too cool.

It's a 40 and I'm typically a 42, but let's just hope the listed dimensions are correct and it fits. The seller was a terrible communicator so I just threw out a low offer.

I sent the Californian to Dena and she replaced the lining and pocket pouches, adding an inside pocket. She was only able to lengthen the sleeves by about 3/8ths of an inch because there just wasn't much to work with, but I'll take it. She also found some buttons that very closely match the original as one was missing.The jacket will be in the mail tomorrow.
