Ranger belts are the best and is what the vast majority of non-rodeo cowboys wear in Texas. If you actually ride a bull or horse for competition, the big belt buckles are fine. If you don't, why? As for clothes, I've moved to exclusively pearl snap shirts, mostly short sleeved, and I love them, though nothing ostentatious. Very plain and understated. Though I like them and that's good enough, the fact that it irritates my teenage kids for some reason is just a bonus. Jeans or shorts depending on the weather. If jeans, only boots.Regarding western belts...
I've always thought that 'ranger' belts and buckles looked more appropriate with vintage western wear than the big rodeo style buckles. Anybody else wear them? Here's mine - a forged iron and silver Mexican Charro buckle from the mid to late 19th c.:
