This weekend began the many events marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the USA here in the Boston area. First was Paul Revere’s ride, (apologies, @GHT) followed up by a full scale reenactment of the Battle of Lexington, including “the shot heard ‘round the world.
Lots of great hats!

I have copies of 3 letters written towards the end of the Civil War by a soldier who died (possibly of gangrene) on the long walk home from MS to AR. Reading them again recently I was reminded of this reproduction pic of a soldier catching a few winks of sleep as he made his trip home.
