Yes, selling a hat and listing a size that may not be accurate is just asking for headaches. I have sent a number of Ebay purchases back as they guesstimated the size in the listing without stating it was a 'guess'.I wouldn't trust that. Too much opportunity for bad measurements.
Unless you have a sizing ring.
Thank you. That's exactly the info I was looking for. It’s a modern era Stetson made by a company who bought the rights to the Stetson name years after Stetson went out of business and stopped making hats. The brim binding and crown ribbon/band along with the “orange” last drop liner make me suspect 1980s, but it could be later, and it really can’t be any earlier.
It looks to be a good daily wear hat, but it really isn’t very valuable on the used/vintage market.
Hat from EBay UK
Appears to have never been worn
Require confirmation that information I have found on this site regarding this hat is correct.
Resistol Roundup Collection R145 Gila under brand name of Kevin McAndrew. Sold by Sakowitz Dept Stores for $55.00.
Size 7,1/2 shrunk to 7,3/8 which fits perfectly.
Ref branding iron B R motif - Byer Rolnick and
Brown Sweat band dates the hat to before 1968?
Years of manufacture?
How expensive was a $55 hat in the 1960’s
Is this made from wool or other?
Why no indication as to the actual material used?
Many thanks
Yep in 1982-83 I had a 16.5% mortgage!!!I think it’s a 1970s hat made after Byer-Rolnick sold out. I also think it’s a fur felt hat without any wool constant. A US size 7 ½ is a UK size 7 ⅜ so depending on which measurements you are using it might not have shrunk.
There are several online inflation calculators if you know the year and the original price. The year makes a lot of difference as inflation was rampant then.

Thanks for reply. Found this info from a post dated 2005 - The brown sweatbands are usually the older models. Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Thanks again for the additional info. Nothing is ever clear cut. With ref to the image of the branding iron showing the letters B R, I have also seen images of the branding iron with the letters R R. Any significance to this? There are so many exceptions to this. As a general rule, this is accurate, but it’s not a sure thing across brands or even within a brand. Many hats made after the 1960s, including Resistols, have brown sweatbands. There are also some hats from far earlier than the 1960s that have black sweatbands; however, they are more common on hats made outside the US.
I believe the Roundup first appeared in the 1970s, and the $55 price also supports a 1970s or ‘80s date. I don’t see anything that puts it in the Byer-Rolnick era.
Can you identify this one for me? What kind of hat is the clarinetist ("Craig Flory" on the left) wearing? Thank you![]()
Oh, that was quick and easy. Thank you
Thank youSort of looks like just a regular Open Road-style straw with a cattleman's crease.
