Threw on the new-to me 1Q Stetson and took the puppy for a ride a couple towns over on a Likker run. Got my Bourbon resupply done but no joy on decent tequila. In my part of Southern Baptist dominated East Texas, well stocked liquor stores are rare. Guess Ill need to take a road trip over to a bigger town one of these days..

Did stop by a really good local Czech brewery called Stetsi's in Lovelady, Tx for lunch on the way home ( Lovelady is famous/ notorious for the Eastham Prison unit where Clyde Barrow did his time. Later He and Bonnie broke Clydes brother and a couple of their future gang members out of there.. Lovelady is a tiny little town so Bonnie and Clyde had driven past every building in town) Back on topic, they made a really good ale... St Willies Abbey ( tribute to Willie Nelson). Didnt think to take a pic of the ale in the glass, so Im substituting a pic of my St Willy prayer candle lol

Mr Bear got to share the fajitas but I hogged the ale myself. Found a really cute t shirt there that just HAD to come home with me.

I’ve seen similar shirts before.

Getting ready to pan fry a couple of blackened Cajun breakfast steaks on Texas Toast with blackened fried onions & peppers; the last pkg of my breakfast steaks. They make great steak sandwiches. I’ll follow up with some fried potatoes. Going to again binge watch Robert Redford’s The American West tonight & tomorrow. Happy New Year!

A proper new years breakfast! Black eyed peas with bacon chunks, hot cornbread with minced sweet onion , and a big side pile of more bacon.... and a tall ****** mary ( more hair of the dog that bit me lol). Figure at this junction of old and new, an older Whippett gets the call this morning

With all the bacon around this morning, Mr Bear is hanging close by lol

Happy New Years Day all!

This is Volans Reposado & I’m having it with some leftover chips & salsa. I’m primarily a Blanco guy & I like their Still Strength Blanco better.

Thanks. I’m new to the tequila world and haven’t tried Volans yet. I’ll see if I can source a bottle.

If you are new & interested in sipping tequilas I would recommend you forget about cocktails, margaritas & Paloma’s, etc, & start with the best brand tequilas you can afford first, with Blancos, Reposados, Anejos & XA’s to learn what you like best. Study those first & learn what the requirements of each category are before picking a brand. Then, as always buy the best can buy & if that is not good enough leave it all behind. If you have to be a price buyer, leave it behind.

I appreciate and like this advice very much. Pretty much what I’ve been trying to do. Although I suppose a price buyer is relative…. So far I’ve been leaning toward reposados, but enjoying all the varieties. Ocho and Pantelones and G4 are the current defaults. Interested in exploring but as you know there’s SO much to explore. I’m always up for recommendations. Thanks for taking time to reply.

As an alternative to G4 Repo you might try Tequila Terralta Repo. Very similar in nose & pallet to G4.
Pantelones scores well & I have heard good things about it but I have yet to try it. My last choice is usually a celebrity tequila.

HoPPY NEW YEAR to you all from Etsuko and I at the Open Air Brewery shop in Kobe.

I chose my Hornskov Mogul for the occasion.

They may look the same, but mine (front) is a Solar Storm sansho IPA (Sansho is Japanese “mountain pepper”, similar to Sichuan pepper, with the same mouth numbing properties). Etsuko’s is a Fruitition hazy pale ale, a slightly bitter little number with a touch of passion fruit on the palate.

We finished off sharing a Decadance chocolate raspberry stout. You could definitely taste the chocolate and raspberry, but the tonka beans they use in this brew give it a complex spicy flavour to complement the sweetness. A couple of mouthfuls was enough for Etsuko. I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t want more than the small glass we got.
