I never liked the cloth ribbon that can on my Akubra so I made my own out of a strip of leather.
My work would probably make Ester shudder but it's on and stays on and I think looks better than the tan ribbon that was on it from factory.
I only paid $5 for the hat at a flea market anyway.

Unique ribbon day! I would like to share a Champ Light weight fedora.

The light weight felt takes a crease and holds it. A signature of a dynamite vg. felt. The sand color is unique and a fun addition to a hat wardrobe.

The ribbon is pleated and offers an eye appealing addition. Excellent workmanship.

Mercedes Benz 100000 KM pin in the bow of my 1942 Rose Bowl from Mike. It is probably a sacrilege since my MB only has 85K on it, but I'm tempting the Mercedes gods.

I was searching for Oregon Agricultural College memorabilia on the Bay a while back and came up with this little beauty. The pin can be dated earlier than 1930 back to the teens. The wee little jewel is probably a ladies pin. The old typewriter at the top is probably signifying the OAC Secretarial Science program. The BS at the bottom also helps in dating, women were able to get an actual degree at this institution from it's first class of 1870. The BS from the Business School came in after the turn of the century.

I placed it, with a loupe to see the clasp, on my 1930s Stetson self conforming Derby. I call this hat my "Kerr Derby" after OAC President William Jasper Kerr. I have many images of him wearing derbies and homburgs.

Good Friday afternoon fellow loungers. I recently saw a picture of a Campdraft with a feather adorning it and it got me to wondering, what are some of the ways that you have changed up your hats with out changing the shape? I know people like Moon who put matches in the band and others like Rudolpho who added hat pins to theirs. If you have done some similar stuff please post a picture, I would love to see it.
Also any reason you would or would not do it?

I have a panama onto which I put a ribbon with a knot and a small plane ornament on the left side. (See photo below)

I want to place a small feather and I was thinking of placing it on the left side to create a sort of symmetry but I’m wondering whether I should just place it on the left side as I believe a man’s hat usually do not have anything on the right.

Is this a big deal or can I do whatever I want ? I mean I dont want to send a weird message or go against a rule you know

I do think it would look odd, but only because we are not used to seeing anything on the right side. I’m not a feather guy, but I think it would look fine on the left in addition to the airplane pin. Still, if want it on the right put it on the right side. These conventions are all contrivances. It’s your hat, women won’t faint in the street when they see a feather in the right.
