Just got some in tortoise, too.

Funny thing is that I went to Lens Crafters and asked if I could have clear lenses put into them. The lady said they could and my insurance covered it.

Long story short, I got a brand new pair of Wayfarers with my prescription in an hour for $14.95 (had to pay a bit extra because they surpassed the $130 limit for frames).

Probably my favourite pair of eye glasses that I've owned. Comfortable, stylish, and built very well.

Haven't forgotten about your post, but my friend still has my memory card for my camera, and it's far too cold to stand around his dorm hoping someone will let me in.

One thing I've noticed with the rather large lenses is that they take a while to cool down and warm up, making for rather heavy fog indoors after spending some time in the snow and ice outside.

I, too, have been a long-time fan of Wayfarers and Clubmasters. But....

The other day I sat on my Clubmasters and squashed them flat. I’ve always heard that Ray-Ban would repair their broken glasses if possible, so I went to Luxottica's web site to see if this was so. I should explain that Luxottica now owns the Ray-Ban brand. Sure enough, Luxottica’s site stated that they did, indeed, repair broken Ray-Bans. The instructions requested that I send Luxottica my glasses, enclose a check for $12.50 to cover handling and provide a letter stating how the glasses were damaged. So I put my broken Clubmasters into their case, scribed out a check for twelve-fifty and drafted a letter explaining that I sat on my glasses. Then I shipped the whole mess to Luxottica.

Yesterday I received a letter from Luxottica stating that they had "...analyzed (my) product and found that the needed repair was not caused by either a defect in materials or workmanship." Since I had written a letter stating that I sat on my glasses, I was puzzled as to how much "analysis" was necessary to reach this conclusion. The letter then went on to say that, because I was a valued customer, Luxottica would repair my Clubmasters for $99.50.

Georgia Shades sells new Clubmasters for $94.50.

Interestingly, Luxottica did not offer to return my $12.50 check. Instead, their letter stated that I had thirty days to decide if I wanted them to repair my glasses and, if they had not heard from me by then, they would "dispose of (my) damaged eyewear." Now please don’t get me wrong. I still love Ray-Bans and I will always own a pair. But I think that I would have been much happier if Luxottica had just told me up front not to be so foolish as to think that they would repair a pair of glasses that had been squashed by my own fat ****.

Oh, and I do wish they'd return my glasses case, too.

Well, I had forgotten that the Macs in the computerlab where I work are equipped with built-in web cams.

Picture quality and lighting isn't great, though.



As a note, they are actually tortoise shell.

Very nice, that's a great look. You're right, the lenses are a little large, I guess you never notice when the are dark. They look great though, good idea.

I tried to get Rx (dark) lenses put in the red ones, but the optometrist said no go. They won't make me Rx sunnies at all here. Stupid optometrist anyway. We'll see what they say when I get back to the US about that. I have never had so much trouble with my glasses and contacts as I have here downunder, what's up with that?

That's rubbish treatment ...my optometrist in Sydney have fitted all my vintage frames and comment on the quality and have even offered to find new pads where the old once are worn out.
