God's Pocket starring Philip Seymour Hoffman is a real powerhouse in my opinion. Hoffman was such a fantastic actor and incredible presence on the screen - I can't think of anything he's done that wasn't compelling. The characters in this film are such seedy, ******** city types that its difficult to like or feel sympathy with any of them - that's what made this film memorable for me - a trip to the dark side of human nature and the struggle to survive in a hard world. Nope, no special effects, hooks or one-liners - just great acting and story telling with a bit of dark humor thrown in.
