Alan, Thanks! There is also a light weight reed at the bottom of the sweatband so just over 1/4 inch of fabric on the reverse side (at the bottom) of the sweatband. This is fairly common with German and Austrian stiff felts from this time period.

Side note: I was able to find the maker by the paper label behind the sweatband (although it has the look of a C. G. Wilke).

I came across this Swiss Straw Hatmaker (Kurt Wismer) while searching around. The video is German but it's worth taking a look at. He is making a Yeddo (Röhrlihüte) style Boater.

Absolutely gorgeous bowler I saw on ebay. Made in Germany or Austria as Mayser pointed out to me earlier. Just amazing.

Thanks for posting it! The shop building is gone but there are still some old buildings in the area. I am pretty sure it's from around WWI maybe earlier. There doesn't appear to be any company marks on the sweatband. My guess is it was made somewhere around Berlin. It probably has some Wool content.

I confirmed this fantastic hat (belongs to Panadora) was made by Heinrich Bock Hutfabrik, Berlin. I found their telegram address was "HABOCKHUT BERLIN" which is "HABOCK HAT" (see below). I don't believe the company survived WWII. Also might have some wool content.

The felt is 3mm thick at the rim. The felt has a very soft surface but is structually stiff at the same time.
The crown is 10-12cm tall, the brim is 5cm wide and the weight is 121 grams.

The Danish store got it's name somewhere between 1938 and 1940.
(Denmark was occupied by Germany in April 1940).
The founder of the store were shot in 1944 by SS as revenge for sabotage.
The store closed in 1975.

I received word today that the Kassel University Library will photograph and make a digital copy available of the book "125 Jahre Mayser-Hüte". This is the 125th Anniversary book of Mayser Hutfabrik Ulm. I have been looking for this book for a while but have never been able to find a copy. I will update when the digital copy becomes available.

Carl Zeumer Magazin Zum PFAU, Pfau-Hut, size 58cm, 156 grams, probably 1920s. It could be a Fur - Wool blend. It wears very soft + light and is in very good condition. Not sure what company made it for Carl Zeumer Magazin Zum PFAU. There is a paper label on the backside of the sweatband but not worth taking a chance of damaging the sweatband to check.

J. Hückel´s Söhne promo pocket mirror, probably 1930s. A. Keudel was a hat shop in Hagen, Germany. This is a design that was missing from my collection.

Anton Peschel velour hat made for Oviatt's Los Angeles

A fine quality velour felt hat, likely pre-WWII. The felt is very soft but fully moldable. Blocking is very straight with 5 3/4" open crown and 2 1/2" brim. 2" ribbon. Very beautiful sweatband is 2 1/4" wide. Liner is utilitarian cotton or linen suggesting that silk might have been unavailable from Europe at the time? $15 retail. More on Oviatt's here.
