I ended up getting a pair of the Bright Shoemaker engineer boots sent over in a 45, and have another sizing question.

The 44, as noted earlier, was very tight in the toebox, causing some pretty serious discomfort, especially with medium thickness socks. Now, with the 45's there is a slight bit of heel slip, which I understand is normal with this style of boot, and the right foot (the 11.5B Brannock) is maybe a half size "too big", but I think punching a hole in the instep strap that is ~5mm from the third one, would solve any "slop" in that boot. Is this a better fit for me, than being uncomfortable, hoping that the 44's will eventually stretch enough to not cause that issue? I know sizing is down to the individual, but, these two feel like they're super close, but also very far apart... Maybe this boot/last just isn't for my foot and I should return both? Any suggestions from here are appreciated.

I would go with socks/insole as adjustment method.

I have never had a strap that was able to really cinch a boot tight like laces do. You are more likely to just tear the hole.

Sounds like you would favor the 45's over the 44's?

Return both. There is already too much uncertainty. Take it from someone who bought and sold 5 pairs of engineers at a big loss before learning the lesson that because they lack laces to adjust the fit some models are just not for everyone.

I too bought and eventually sold many pairs of engineers after realizing that my feet just don't work in that kinda boot.

If you are not convince, I’d lean towards returning both and continue the search.
If you want to keep one pair, I’d definitely go for the larger pair. They will only get better with break-in of the sole, but a boot that is too small won’t grow out of pity.

I'm going to keep the 45's. I wore them for a few hours around the house yesterday, and they seemed to feel better with heat (from wearing them), and will take the next week or two of wearing them around the house to break them in properly. If they become sloppy, I'll just list them here for someone else to enjoy.

Thanks all for the guidance and information :)

Not really sure where else to put this. I've been thinking about a pair of Paraboot Chambords, but can't seem to find anywhere that has a 13US in stock. Some stockists don't even list 13, period. The apron stitch look has grown on me. Anyone here have any experience with these shoes? 2741abff-437a-4f33-b569-bf7051da8385-1.jpg

I own the exact pair. They typical list in EU sizing. If using US sizing you can probably drop 1 size from brannock. They are very comfortable.

They are my favorite shoes. I wear the same size as my Brannock size.. 8.5 in Red Wing, 9 in sneakers, 41.5 in these.

I have worn 1 size down from Brannock before and they were unbearable. I might be ok with 41 but then I can't wear thick socks in them in the winter.

I have wide forefeet but narrow heels so sizing can be tricky. I would likely go with a 13US/47EUR. Thing is, I can't find them in stock in that size anywhere.
