I've got a BG gold label jacket. The leather is nice - thin but substantial. I am actively looking for a second one and have wondered if there is a difference between the gold and black labels. Many sellers point out that theirs is a "gold label" and I'm usually thinking "does it make a difference?"

So the gold label is older and maybe a little better and fits 1-1.5 sizes smaller than labeled? Is that right?
Inclonclusion, Yes. This particular jacket is thicker than the black label type. I will describe the older gold label with the bull on the label as thick as the old comp weight Vansons. I purchased mine in 1984.

The jacket looks quite nice. I would have love it without the side braids.

On the other hand, this jacket is coming from Japan, i’m almost 100% sure that you can search for it on Buyee for 40% less on the price.

I've owned a couple of Avirex jackets and currently have one that I really like in my collection. Very flashy and not particularly suiting the styling of most of the fashion I see on FL but I really like it.

@Matsumoto I've never handled an Avirex jacket but I've had to poke around TikTok for a work project and while there I searched leather jackets - in a variety of keyword combinations - and Avirex seems to pop up a lot.

There are a lot of young people really into the oversized trend and picking up pre-owned Avirex A2s in a size or two larger than what you need seems to be on-point with them.

Never had one of their A2's, I've owned a few of their varsity jackets in lambskin and they seem fairly good quality. The one I've currently got is "genuine leather", no information beyond that so definitely not top quality. I've bought it for the style and fit (not oversized!) however and for that it's perfect, very nice details and a perfect cropped fit.

No, it's not a good price. With shipping and duties, you'd be better off buying a new one for $559.
Thank you @Biff42, I appreciate the thought. Would the jacket at that price be better suited to a TFLer in Europe? Perhaps less duty and tax? Are Vansons prevalent in Western Europe or are they harder to come by?

That Im not sure. I'm US-based and can only advise on the market for that jacket here.

Having purchased goods from Japan post-tariffs, I can tell you that the shipping prices (time two: one for domestic Japan and then Japan-to-US shipping) make all but a really good deal cost-prohibitive with the tariffs.

There are supposed to be tariff carve-outs for made in USA goods being repatriated, but that sounds like a hassle and not worth the time to contact the Japanese shipper.

@Biff42 I too have experienced Buyee sticker shock when looking at what a 15.5% tariff and double shipping adds to the price. Seems the only real way forward now is to find an undervalued piece and then capitalize on some iteration of Buyees coupons at 8%, 10%, 12%, 15% or 20% off. Quite frustrating, actually.
