That's how the Bates competition style jackets are made. I prefer the length so I don't have my shirts fall below my jacket waist. That drives me nuts for some reason. I see why it looks off to you though.

These jackets are a bit longer but I actually quite like it. I love mine and would gladly recommend it if you find one in your size.
