When they say "width" 47cm, would they be referring to armpit width, or bottom hem width? I see this on Japanese auctions and am never sure.

A California Sportswear jacket. I typically think of this label as late 40s. The zipper pull is 50s and appears to be the original zipper. I would guess the stop box has Talon down the middle. This was a common transition set-up. The Talon was dropped from the stop box and the pull became rounded on the edge. The style for this time is a bit odd, looks more like an early 40s look, certainly odd for 1950.
