The first photo is Jimmy in 1931 when he won the Bendix Trophy flying the Laird Super Solution. The last photo was taken during the 1925 Schneider Cup races, which he won flying an Army Curtiss R3C-2 floatplane.Doolittle was 45 when the U.S. entered WW-II. Born - 1896; Died - 1993. The photos are likely late 1920s.

John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Some of you will be pleased to learn that the individual in this photo now claims to be $53 million in debt. How is that even possible???
But one question one flight-jackets.
Why these big fur-collars? To stop wind around your neck?
I'm pretty sure the jacket in the photo below is a reproduction, but it shows the collar tab well. With the collar flipped up and tab holding it closed, your neck will be kept warm.Yes. If you look at most of these collars, they have closures to fasten the collar closed and are pretty warm that way. I had always heard the old rumor that the fur also reduces neck chafing a bit, but I'm not sure if that is one of those old pilot's tales.
Of course they were allowed, but when you're standing on a wind-swept airfield in Korea or Alaska in January you need the collar flipped up!Because of the correct shirts and ties, military-pilots are/were not allowed, to simply wear turtleneck-pullovers? Anyone knows?
