I finally watched "Wife Vs. Secretary". I'm a huge Myrna Loy fan and the rest of the cast ain't half bad either. However, I was struck by the similarity to another Loy film, "Evelyn Prentice".
In each, Loy is married to a man whom is married to his job. She mistaking becomes jealous of another woman and goes to stay with someone else. Even some scenes, like the dinner party, had similarities.
Please discuss, compare and contrast.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

I wish I had seen "Evelyn Prentice," but I have "Wife vs. Secretary" on DVD and I like it very much. I'll try to catch the other film sometime to add to the conversation.

I like both of these movies; I haven't seen Wife vs. Secretary in a while but recently watched Eveyln P. since it came with the Loy-Powell box set. One difference I recall is that in E.P., Myrna's jealousy is well founded, but in W. v. S., she is mistaken in thinking her husband (Gable) is fooling around. Even though the secretary is played by Jean Harlow, their relationship is purely professional, but Myrna jumps to conclusions that there is an affair. In E.P., the other woman (Roz Russell) openly pursues Myrna's husband (W. Powell), and although downplayed in the film, and Powell later indicates (to Myrna) that there was no affair, it seems pretty clear that something did happen.

I think Jean Harlow's personality in this role shows something closer to how she is said to have been in real life than her bombshell roles!
