I ride a motorcycle daily and wear Chippewa Engineer boots, good protection and easy on and off going to work. They are very good quality but I find the toe box very narrow, I don't have wide feet and I ended up with calluses on both big toes. They broke in and don't bother me much anymore. If I had the cash I would buy some Wescos without a doubt.

OMG I love those Mr. Freedoms, what size? Tell me 13! Daniel I have my black Wesco's on right now have ordered the brown. Best boots ever, I wear mine to work and get away with it. Pipvh we just had our Bouvier put down, one of our sadder days. What a wonderful dog. Between Great Danes and Bouviers we have been blessed with great dogs. ( And a few cats, like two just from the pound. Hit the Triple Crown with one, ear mites, fleas and lice. We are such good customers they just gave us the kittens, they knew the Vet would get all the money.) Dr. Velo. that is a big reason I like the Wescos plenty of room in the toes!--John

Sorry to hear about your bouvier, kyboots. We had two - huge, amazing personalities, the gentlest dogs imaginable. I don't think I could have another breed. To keep on topic, one of them chewed the s**t out of a pair of Red Wing loggers, and I'm presently contemplating a pair of Wesco Bosses (and our next bouvier...).
Marineabilly - fantastic resole on the Mr. Freedoms! It's hard to find a cobbler who will even do that these days (much less one who will do it competently). They all think it will be too stiff (Although, in all fairness, my Wesco's are pretty stiff). How is the heel slip with that thuck midsole?

Scored a pair of Cat's Paw heels from an old shoe repair place on 5th Ave in Brooklyn the other week - the guy behind the counter was very puzzled when I asked if he had any, but dug around underneath the counter and popped back up with these! Didn't know how much to charge me, so I gave him $10, guess the heels had been sitting under there since he bought the business... Gonna get my local cobbler to use 'em when he rebuilds my black no-name engineer boots... they're never gonna be as special as Marineabilly's awesome pair, but I love 'em nonetheless!

Smart move. They are pure fashion.
I have been in two separate accidents while wearing good quality and well fitting engineer boots. Both times I went skidding down the asphalt as my body flailed about. In neither instance did the boots come off, even though they suffered a high degree of road abrasion. My feet, ankles and shin/calf areas were (mostly) uninjured.
For me they have been proven protection.
That being said, I really like the increased support of my lace-up White's Smoke Jumpers.

Glad to hear you turned out ok. My personal choice is to take advantage of modern technical advancement and use gear purpose built for riding.
Likewise. I do admire the look of classic motorcycle gear but function must come before form most of the time.
I would like to have another pair of engineer boots for casual wear though, to return to topic. I have had great luck with Frye footwear in the past.
Thanks. What is your advanced boot of choice? I have actually been considering something from Sidi. The only experience with the brand is some cycling shoes, from a l-o-n-g time ago. They were really great shoes and saw me through many races.
