Just had my snake boots resoled, as well as my work boots. Hoover Shoe Repair does excellent work if you are around central Alabama and in need of it.

It might've been asked before but how do cowboy boots fit and feel compared to engineer boots? Always wanted a pair of Lucchese but don't have anywhere around me to try them on

Cowboy boots will ne much snugger on average, and you need to be much more aware of the fit round the toes, especially with a narrow, pointed toe type. Neither are a style of boot I'd be too keen to buy sight unseen online unless or until I was happy I knew might fit with a particular brand.

Heyo!
My dad was parting with his 40+ year old Tony Lama boots and I grabbed them. I wondered if anyone had an idea on what type of leather this is? I don't imagine I can just hit this with some Obenauf's and call it good. View attachment 770286
They are teju lizard. Bick 4 or Cadillac would be far better choices for conditioning them.

teju lizards are quite small so the hides are as well. The hides are always pieced together. Use a brush to keep the seams clean from dirt buildup. Lizard hides can be bad about splitting.
Will do! Seems like a strange choice for what I would think would traditionally be a work boot, but maybe the lizard is more of a dress up leather?
And after some furious Googling, I now know more about Argentinian lizard hunting/export laws than I ever expected to

Yes. Keep them clean & conditioned so they won’t dry out & split.
Back in the day my favorite colors for Nocona brand lizards were black & peanutbrittle.
Wore a pair of Dan Post Lizards through three resoles over the years (similar color to the Nocona Peanut brittle) Ill swear the only thing I ever wore out for years was Bluejeans and lizards ( plus an occasional smooth ostrich)

Dang! When/where was that? I feel like I'd have to move towns and start a fresh persona before I could have a crack at wearing the boots I posted

South and east texas in the 70s-80s. Everyone had boots but some of us were lucky enough to have at least one nice pair. Just as with hats.. wear boots with confidence and youll get more questions and complements than digs. For what its worth, if you havent worn boots much and youre not on a horse, look at something like a low healed Roper boot for comfort. Justin makes a Roper in what they call a Deerlite leather. ( I think its actually processed and embossed cowhide that looks like veg tanned deerhide) They look nice and the uppers are nice and soft. Over time Ive had several pair of thse and then hold up well as long as you dont use them for work boots. Justin does make a nice lace up boot that in a line similar to lots of old west mens boots. Find what you like, but and wear with pride. If people where you are laugh at boots and hats, move to Texas lol

Maaaan, those are solid Dazed and Confused Texas days. What a time to be alive! Were you rolling around in an appropriately Texan vehicle to match the outfit?
Solid advice. I'll give the boots a go. Given the number of Texas plates I see up here, I might actually be in good company!

Avirex cowboy boots, size 12D, just purchased. Made in USA. I have no idea of the age, but I fell in love at first sight!
Nice! If I'm remembering correctly, Avirex had those back in the early 90s. They made a Texas leather jacket around that time that I was pretty keen on but I never got one.
