A recent post from Lisa Renee Sorrell. The caption read she had just received a shipment of her boots from a longtime customer. Something for a museum display.

Just thought I'd post these for archive purposes. Never seen another pair of full shell cordovan cowboy boots, thought y'all might like a look. J.B. Hill out of El Paso, #1 French Toe, #5 Heel, Horween Shell Cordovan, Sterling Silver Conchos.

What's the heights on these, it seems taller than regular ones? The details are amazing

For your first pair you should try Chisos or Los Altos. For the price Los Altos has a nice selection of leathers and toe shapes. I just got back from Austin and went by the big boot store on south congress. It was underwhelming. Heritage boots down the street had great quality boots. Warren Buffett bought up most of the major boot brands. A great majority of cowboy boots are made in Leon, Mexico. I am not a fan with of full quill ostrich, but smooth ostrich and ostrich leg are special. .
I know this is an old thread but I came here specifically for Los Altos reviews. I totally agree about the quality and selection. I have a full quill ostrich and a bullhide. They are very comfortable too..

Being a rancher he makes a line of plain-Jane ranch boots & buckaroo’s that are sold off the shelf locally, mostly. They last forever.
What is the rancher boot brand? Sorry I am late. I hope I’m not being rude jumping into your conversation..but I can’t ever have enough western style boots (cowboy boots)

Tuesdays are meeting day, so the Los Altos caimans made the trip to work today. They ended up climbing around a boiler room dealing with a pump that stopped pumping. There was some discussion awhile back about the work-worthiness of caiman. Probably not the best choice, simply because of what it costs (and cowboy boots are not very good for climbing pipes, period) but so far it has held up amazingly well in conditions like this.
I’m a plumber and I wear hondo boots all day long.. just all leather and built like the Lucchese classic.. I love my Los Altos full quill ostrich though!

Dan Post. I haven't had a pair in close to 30 years, and these definitely don't hold a candle to the old ones, but I really liked the toe shape, and I imagine they're as good or better than anything Ariat builds. Plus I nabbed 'em off ebay for about $60 so I can't find much fault with them for that price....although it'd be another story at full retail.

I have a pair of elephant skin Dan Posts from 1987. My girlfriend (now wife) was doing an internship at a western wear store and cowboy boots were a big thing on the college campus at the time. She bought these on "layaway" (the owner was a great guy and thought the world of her). The owner let her put $5 down and told her to pay a little bit every now and then AND let her take them to give to me. I wore them once or twice a week for the last half of that school year and then they went in a closet until September 2023. Now, I only wear them when we go to a rodeo (1-3 times a year since 2023).

About that layaway program... The boots were priced at $199 then. My girlfriend/wife paid the initial $5. She can't remember if she made one or two additional $5 payments before the owner closed up shop and told her to not worry about the rest. So she got a heck of a deal for these boots. The bone color was big in 1987 (today, I wish they were a darker shade). However, they are surprisingly the most comfortable things I have ever put a foot into. Here is a picture of them.

The soles are still original and you can still clearly see the logo on the heel.

Nice!

Sounds familiar. My wife was working at a western store in a mall in 1983 when she bought me my first pair of (adult) cowboy boots. Just black calf, but Dan Posts and I still have them. Seen at this link:

^^^^ This post cracks me up as I went pretty far down the cowboy boot rabbit hole since then. :)

Those are nice looking boots. Today's Dan Posts just don't seem nearly as nice compared to the 1980's boots, huh?

Was in Cody, Wyoming for fly fishing a week ago. Went to Mercury Leather. Was hoping to get some custom boots measured. There is a 3 year wait and I knew they were expensive, start at $5,000.. Wasn't going to wait three years. They did, however, have some Kemo Sabe boots that are infinitely customizable for $1,000. Kemo Sabe is the old J.B .Hill brand. They looked really nice as display models. I think they take about a year. Also I think the order book is now closed for new orders of Custom Mercury boots.
