Cologne and perfume

My dad wore Old Spice so I have a special fondness for that scent, but I have been wearing Aramis for about 30 years and don't feel like changing. I also have a fondness for women wearing Opium!

Before I developed some health problems which included a severe allergy to perfumes and chemical odors, I loved, Loved, LOVED Old Spice! Man that stuff was great. A soft aroma with a little spice. I used their shaving soap and hair shampoo as well. Stuff was fantastic! It seems they've changed the formula and the stuff now stinks like all the other perfumes and colognes. I still have some bottles of it from about 30 years ago that I use as decorations in my bathroom. Even have a container of Old Spice body talc and some old soap-on-a-rope that I never used. These days I use the Gillette non-aromatic shaving soap and still use the brush. Love it.

My dad used to use one called Aqua de Selva in a handsome green bottle. I found some of that on the web a while back and bought a bottle for the bathroom.

I don't shave every day. On the days I do, it's Ice Blue Aqua Velva. On non shaving days it's Old Spice Cologne.

I like the old classic scents. My normal every day after shave is a home made Bay Rum. I do keep a couple other mass produced Bay Rums handy when I want to change things up. I enjoy most of the Pinaud line, so I have Clubman, Lilac Vegetal and Citrus Musk on my shelf. I still have about half a bottle of the original Old Spice that I will use on very special occasions.

My dear old mum bought me some Brut last xmas, something I used to buy when in my late teens, but the stink of it was too much to bear for me now *yucky*

These days I prefer something lighter, such as CK One which is quite fresh and not so over powering... Old Spice is not quite so bad, and reminds me of my long departed dad.

I've been using another DR Harris aftershave called Marlborough, including the shave soap.
Very nice scent.

Aqua Di Parma Colonia for AS and cologne. Terre by Hermes as a close second for cologne.

I'm not into floral, sweet sugary notes in my fragrances. I'm a man who wants scents that are an expression & extension of 'me' so that the scent is a calling card and scented 'photo still' of my momentarily being 'there.'
And anyone who knows me will realize that words like floral...sweet...sugary...are really not a good description of me!

Plus you want a scent that you are comfortable with and 'lifts' your mood , your bearing and generally makes 'you' feel good about life.

So I tend to lean towards notes that are 'old school' manliness and sometimes in this modern world of metro***uality are unusual.

I like hints of dark bitter chocolate ; burnt toffee; leather; coffee; tobacco; tweed; peat; wood smoke; dusty book leaves; incense.
This can be balanced with a light citrus note or a dark fruit at times & on occasion even a hint of natural vanilla, but never overpowering the main notes.

There's a wonderful small family owned perfume shop in London (Elizabeth Street) about five minutes walk from Victoria Bus Station (but a five minute walk in London can take you to the most amazing hidden oasis far from the madding crowd!). I often go there when I come down from the country & it has an amazing selection of scents that you'd never find in the High Street.
I buy my Knize Ten (Bogart wore this) there.

And don't be afraid to 'mix' scents. As a combination can be amazing if they work well together! For example, the Tom Ford Private range has a Tobacco Oud that blends and compliments the Tuscan Leather seamlessly!

We are so tuned into our sense of smell (think how a scent from your past like freshly mown lawn or waxed floor boards..etc can take you back to a place or an emotion!) that the right perfume on you can be a powerful & empowering thing

I'm a big fan of Atelier, specifically Fatal, which has been my go-to for the past couple of years. The scent lasts for a very long time, which means it can be used in very discreet amounts, knowing it will remain on me for the entire day.

I've used the Bayrhum and Lyme (on my second bottle of Lyme now).
Also, I found a bar soap (from Royall) in Lyme. So the soap and aftershave compliment each other, as well as the Lymes shave soap I use.
Although some of the new scents listed in the link do look interesting, I'm going to use up this second bottle of Lyme first before swapping.
