What ho gang, we have just got back from working at Pendennis Castle (Cornwall) and we missed Edna's TV appearance in Chanel 4's Churchills Darkest Decision.

Edna played Churchills secretary.

Anyone see it?

So, for those of us who may not be able to see the film, what was Churchill's darkest decision? He made so many, and so many of them were dark.
And which secretary?

I just Googled it, and found a couple of brief reviews from the British press.
The subject was the decision to destroy the French fleet as it sat in harbor in Algeria. This led to the death of 1,300 French sailors, and much later recrimination. A tough decision, a fascinating period during the war, and an exotic locale. How to deal with the Vichy regime was always a vexed question.
My first guess was the decision to let the Russians gobble up Poland at the end of the war, tho it could be argued that circumstances made the decision moot anyway. There was nothing the allies could do to stop it.
I hope her film gets shown on PBS here, or the History Channel. She looks so cool!

I hope this will be aired in the US!!!!!

The attack on Mers-el-Kébir was indeed an interesting - and unfortunate - chapter of WW2. It actually had a fairly lasting effect in that it caused much ill will on the part of the French. During the Tunisia campaign the former Vichy French forces were unwilling to coordinate directly with the British, which was definitely problematic.

Watched it, was rather less disappointed than I sometimes am with TV WW2 documentaries. Too much political hindsight, not enough contemporary context, although the review of the pros and cons of the action was reasonably thorough and well-balanced. Again IMO.

Edna was easily the most convincing of the reconstruction caste members, IMO.

That's because she wore her own clothes, all the rest had to go to the 'costume' dept ;-)
