I Guess as the weather is getting cooler now, so suitable for wearing cardigans/sweaters, what type was the one you wore and were complimented on? it's nice when people do that, I was wearing a new sweater the other day and the person at the place where I was taking lunch said how smart it looked. Made me happy for the rest of the day.

Looks like shawl collar sweaters are back this year. I'm already seeing them in the stores. I got a couple of great ones on clearance from Lucky Brand that I can't wait to wear.

Back with a vengeance! It seems like every retail shop is carrying them in varying degrees of quality.

I wear a large, I would suggest if your wearing your cardigan over a dress shirt with a tie, you might consider moving up a size.
In my case move to XL.

I wear the Archival Clothing shawl collar cardigan. I have the solid grey but the other colors and stripes are also tempting. I believe they designed this sweater based on an old Montgomery Ward catalog but I cannot remember for certain.

I love a shawl collar and I'm not a fan of the very thin, collarless versions. Just not my thing... Now, I would like to add a chunkier knit to my wardrobe but being a small guy, they are rather hard to find.

Holy Cow!!!

I was watching a shawl collar cardigan on eBay, nothing too special but I liked the look of it. Hardly vintage and made by a now defunct retail chain (C&A) and made in Hong Kong. I intended to bid a max of £20, however I forgot. Checked eBay tonight and the auction had closed for a whopping £204!!!! What warrants that price? Item here

C&A is still pretty big in germany. Nowadays they often use acrylics instead of wool.:eusa_doh:


Label in the auction doesn't look that old but the wool seems chunky enough.

I just purchased one on ebay for $38.00 plus shipping.
Its a nice Ralph Lauren with a shawl collar. Color is green.

Looks good to me, I prefer a long and loose fit. As usual there is insufficient detail in the silly sketch to make a rational decision --- I assume this is by design...

All Duluth's line seems to consist of Asian-contracted imports, built to a pretty stout spec. I have a pair of their work pants, which please me rather a lot. I may pick up one of their cardigans when (if?!) the post-holiday budget rebounds. Alpaca is WARM.

Only one cardigan currently exists in my lineup, a merino Eddie Bauer zip-front in grey, sourced from my appointed purveyor of fine vintage dry goods (i.e. the Goodwill store down the street). At the price (seven bucks), my only regret is the lack of pockets for ****** snacks and smoking accessories.

I'm wearing it now. It may be a little "Mr. Rogersy," but sure is nice to put on in the morning until the iron of the wood stove -- and the coffee in my veins -- come up to temp.

I've just picked up a rather nice shawl collar, button front cardigan in (of all places) Sainsburys supermarket. Light grey, with a black snowflakey pattern over the shoulders. Very classic look in the outside; inside it is lined with some sort of nylon/poly in the sleeves, and modern, man-made fleece type fabric in he body. Great vintage looking exterior, while being also very warm thanks to the additions. Definitely wearable as a jacket on its own. I'll try and remember to put up photos soon...

I've had an intense hatred of any kind of wool "sweater" since childhood; that and cords. I think I was scarred by my mother sending me to school in cords and sweaters (probably a few were cardigans). Looking back on it, my mom and dad were masters of classic style, so I probably looked dapper as hell, but the problem is kids are extremely cruel and anything different gets mercilessly teased. Plus I hated the "vvtt, vvtt, vvtt" sound of walking in corduroy trousers.

Looking at these fantastic cardigans, especially the shawl collars, I'm thinking it may be time to overcome my hatred of "sweaters" and get a DB wool cardigan with shawl collar
