"Fun" might be the best I could say about this film. I just rented it; and for everything they got right in this film, they seemed to get about 3 things wrong.

I thought Mos Def's performance as Chuck Berry was funny and quirky. I thought alot of the actors were great but the film lacked direction and I really don't like Beyonce but her singing was really good. She should maybe stick to classic R&B.

Diva: I agree with everything you're saying. I also think the Muddy performance was very good, nailing his voacal speech patterns; but the character was quite underdeveloped.

I think I may have done a better job playing Willie Dixon than Cedric.

I'm in complete agreement on this one with you. I really wanted to like this movie, and parts of it were pretty good, but even calling it average is a stretch.

Beyonce' is NO Etta James, period. I couldnt get past that casting. It graded on me.

It seems like a movie for people who want to know the Cliff Notes of what happened, but dont want to sit and 'endure' the real history of the time.

Shame.

For me, the movie inspired me to go and learn more...It really made me think about how I didn't really know as much as I would like about the history of music in America, and that I needed to learn more than just the "Cliff Notes" version! So, maybe it will inspire other people as well.

You, my dear, are a rare breed
Perhaps I shouldnt use the Cliff Notes term, as movies are just that. More a hacking or tv movie dramatization of a time that already had more drama than they knew what to do with.

One part they did get right was during the 1964 Rolling Stones tour of the states, they did visit the most famous of the Chess recording studios 2120 South Michigan Avenue! They wanted to meet all their heros, and they did record there twice. They also did one of their few instrumentals entitled, 2120 South Michigan Avenue, as a tribute.
