Those moleskin trousers are indeed very handsome. Is the colour what bookster calls midnight blue? They appear not to offer navy in moleskin.

I shall have to order a pair of those trousers. I tend to prefer two pleats but hesitate to request pleats in thick moleskin. Any advice on this point?
I think that you may be right and Midnight Blue would be accurate
Regarding pleats, I don't have pleats and its possibly because this style of Moleskins has always been a flat front trouser.
I do ahve pleated moleskins and the the weight of the moleskin tends to make the trousers look a bit heavy and thick below the waist, so i like the cleaner look of a flat front.

Dont forget also that if ordering trousers to wear with braces then go an inch or two larger than your usuual waist size. two reasons for this.. as they are being supported by braces they will not be bunched up by a belt and also after that huge 4 or 5 course meal you wont feel like your trousers are going to throttle you!!

Thanks for confirming my belief that pleats would be undesirable on moleskin trousers.

Yes, I get my trousers made an inch or two larger in the waist. They should hang free and let the braces do their job. The ability to wear loose trousers is one of the (many) joys of wearing braces. But there are limits. Recently I tried on some old trousers of mine that are now several sizes too large, and the effect was rather clownish, even though the braces held them up perfectly.

Rather than start a new thread I found this former one.

Now you don't get that kind of fitting with a high street tailor. My wife is still working on my new trousers, I have just tried them on to check that the marriage tackle is comfortable. A button up fly has always been my preference, the lady never complains, she makes the panel where the buttonholes go then sews it into the garment. Poking a marker through the buttonhole gives her an accurate point when sewing on the buttons. They always fit perfectly.

High waist, fishtail detail, higher at the back, no belt loops, buttons for braces and buttoned flies.
My lady is not only a talent, she likes to spoil me too. The flies button quickly and easily but
when the bladder gives me that familiar twinge, I never ignore it, although sometimes the
practicality can be a challenge.

personally if I have a choice in the matter I go for a button fly; one advantage is a button is simple to replace orreattached yourself; a broken zip a great deal less so

I find it a little embarrassing, myself, to use the stand-up loo and have to partially undress to do so. Still, I prefer button flies. My jeans are Levi's 501.

I can't think of any other downside. The braces-with-waistcoat thing is a royal pain.
With the braces with waistcoat thing, undo the braces at the back of the trousers and there is enough give to sit, do your business and then it is just a matter of doing the back buttons back up. No need to remove the waistcoat. Can be a bit fiddly at first, but then you get it down to a fine art.

At my request, my tailor makes my trousers with a button fly, an English (fishtail, brace) back, and no belt loops (I always wear braces). There's no extra charge for any of that. I doubt he gets many requests for those options, but they do appear on his standard ticket (I've seen him typing in my orders).
No mention of the matter of embarrassing instances of undone flies. The chances of forgetting to zip up a zipper are significantly higher than forgetting to button up a button fly. The design of button flies is such that it's impossible to tell if any buttons were unfastened.

As for the waistcoat braces difficulty,

Going Grey 012 - Copy.JPG

just reach behind and unfasten the two rear buttons.
You will find that the seated performance can be done
in comfort. You will also find that if the waistband has
that central fishtail finish, refastening is not difficult at all.

Honestly, not really. The main drawback is just what you mentioned, they’re slower when you need to go. Some people also find that buttons can show a little under slimmer pants, or they can pop open if the fit’s too tight. But on the flip side, a lot of folks like that they’re sturdier than zippers and less likely to break. Mostly just comes down to preference and patience.
