Bring back old Hollywood!!

I'm so sick of all the violence in todays movies, and all the *** and drugs and partying. What happenned to the good old days when movies were glamourous and actually enjoyable to watch? Not just made to bring in some useless dough. If I was a millionaire, I would try and bring back old Hollywood, I would get real glamourous actors, beautiful sets, stunning clothing and real scripts and create film again with those old fashioned cameras.

Sorry I'm just ****ed at how society is today, I refuse to buy clothes anymore, I only watch old movies (or disney haha), I listen to records and old music, read old 40's magazines on the train to work, I even talk old fashioned when I can, as soon as I can, I'm buying an old late 30's, early 40's car and all my kids will have old fashioned names, hurry for the past, nertz to this day and age!!

Lately, most of the people I hang out with were born in the 40's, they have so much more to say than people today, I'm so far gone from being in this world of today that I don't even know who's who anymore, regarding actors, singers, whatever, I barely know anything about the movies in the theaters now except from my friend Candace lol

Just a little side story here, I used to do modeling and acting and was supposed to be caught up in the modern world. I could never fit in though, I always wondered why, my agents always wanted me to dress like a ***** and I never did, and they'd get mad, I guess I have too much CLASS to do that! GOSH! I gave up on Hollywood when I found friends that actually APPRECIATE the past and even dress like it (never dressed it until a few months ago! didn't know people did that....) I don't have much vintage clothes, but I am sewing when I have a chance and I'm making dresses from original 40's patterns. Gotta have my fun somehow I guess. I've always been old fashioned though, I knit, sew, crochet, drive like a granny, get thrills out of nature (unlike most people today) ahhhh I'm just sick of the world today. I guess this topic will be moving somewhere else soon huh? HAHAHA

Plenty of modern films are just as good as films made during the so-called 'Golden Age'. Likewise, just as there are plenty of bad films made today, plenty bad films were made in the past. Many of the older, terrible films no one sees anymore, and thus never mentions. As for ***/violence/drugs, plenty of that goes on in society, now as in the past. It was only because of forced censorship that such things couldn't be shown. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want censorship today. In fact, many older films were based on the novels of the time, which often were much more risque. In translating such works to film, many 'controversial' elements had to be dropped.

I guess something for all of us to consider is to simply avoid movies that we don't like, and let market forces determine films that will be made. The obvious conundrum is that how do you know if you will like a flim or not? Listening to friends or film critics is the obvious answer. Finding a good critic is another story (we could get into long discussons about the state of film criticism as well).

Prior to the Hayes code, there was some pretty violent / racy stuff coming out of Hollywood and would likely have got as bad as we're seeing now if the Hayes code hadn't clamped down on it(not to advocate censorship or violence and ****, just for the record). There were plenty of bad movies back then, as well, we either don't know of them or haven't seen them due to the fact that the bad stuff usually doesn't withstand the test of time.

There's a thread here on the lounge that touches on the 'not so great' films of the era. Studios used to turn out a lot of budget junk that would get double featured all the time because they wouldn't be worth seeing on their own. Those in turn would provide the budget for the better stuff. Most films now take up to a few years from concept to screening, back then it was a matter of months with the lesser stuff, and it showed. A lot of those films are thankfully lost to oblivion. Studios were literally churning out films left and right, 'A', 'B' and 'C' grades, the B and C stuff paying the bills for the A stuff(hence the terms A- and B- list now).

I'll say this, there's a sense of over-commercialization and institutionalism now that didn't exist in the same manner during the time of the talkies, and it's a breath of fresh air to sit down with a lot of those films.

Yes, market forces. Movies exist today because poor saps do enjoy them. Or at least enjoy the trailers enough to pay to see them. I've not seen any pre hayes code films but from what I've read here they didn't mind their *** and violence back then either.

Also, remember that a great deal of Disney is just bowdlerized versions of racier and much older tales. They didn't mind the *** and violence back THEN too.

It is not the modern world a lot of us rebel against. It is the real world of past, present and future.
