also, the 'waist' on those jackets is much higher than normal. in fact, it's so high that it's no longer on the 'natural waist' of the wearer.

Yeah on alot of original drafting systems they refer to it as the 'fashionable waist line' and its intresting to see it rise and fall again over the years.

I'm interested to see whether any of these styles were copied in the UK at all? There was quite alot of creative cutting in the trade journals like The Tailor and Cutter, and The West End Gazett.

that one above is a bit of an extreme example (almost jazz suit territory); the skirt is longer than the ones Dinerman posted, but the waist is still about the same.

i've never seen evidence of it happening myself, but i'd be amazed it if didn't have some sort of UK equivalent, however niche.
