How useful are belts on cross zips like the J106 and LW Trojan, where the belts are “added” rather than part of the jacket?

Those of you have jackets like this, how often do you use the belts?

Do you think the jackets look “incomplete” beltless?

Thanks!

I think waist belts on classic motorcycle jackets are mostly traditional, but do have some function. Specifically, they help seal the waist so that air is retained inside the jacket at speed, which helps retain heat. It may also help keep the jacket on the body in a foot first slide, rather than riding up and exposing the body underneath. But I see a lot of motorcycle jackets without a belt, so that may have been more of a theory than a tested, verified fact.

I bought the delraiser due to lack of belt. I ride my motorcycle and don’t miss having a belt. My thedi jacket has a built in belt and I was tempted to cut it off before I slapped myself out of it.

I have 2 Aero J-106 Vincents both with removable belts. I never use the belts. I like the way it looks better with the belt loops and no belt. Also, the belt gets in the way and I feel like I might scratch my car sometimes with it on. I keep the belts hanging in my closet and I like having it in case I ever sell the jackets and the buyer wants it with a belt.

I like a lot of aviator jackets but the cross-zips that have much clearer motorcycle design language (whether Perfecto, Buco, Cal, whatever) while having no belt loops/belt/side laces end up looking disproportionate, like the torso has been elongated (even if it hasn't) because of the empty space visually.
