Attached is a picture of my version. It is rough, just off the flange. The brim curl needs to be cleaned up and the swoop magnified. Perhaps a bit of stiffener. I know it is coarser than you want. But if you are interested and want just a simple two ply knotted cord I will send the hat to you no charge if you pick up the shipping. There is a full 5" crown, 2 5/8" brim

Completely unrelated question. I have a Stetson western hat that I bought ~20 years ago, and the sweat band (evidentally not leather) is showing its age. Anyone know a shop in central NC that can replace a sweatband? It's not a hugely expensive hat so I'd rather not have to send it off somewhere.
Try B.M. Franklin and Co in Atlanta. They use real leather for replacements, their pricing is very reasonable, and from NC to ATL the shipping shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Very cool, Robert. That looks like a great first effort. I'll take it. I like the front bow in the original pictures. Can you duplicate that with a 1/2 or 3/4 charcoal or black ribbon?

when your favorite fedora gets a hole/split right at the point of the front pinch. Lock & co glued a patch behind it. So its no longer a hole but a slightly noticable patched hole. Is it time to toss it or does that give it character?

With it on, Id have to hand it to someone for them to see it. When Lock first fixed it, it was practically invisable, but with one year time the furfelt seems to be pulling away from itself at the scar a tiny bit. The hole is still completelypatched but now its kinda noticable. But Im thinking its cool. What do you guys think.?
Opinions?.

Also...Should I steam and brush or just leave it alone?

Thanks for your opinions.

I picked up a late 50s Stetson that has some cool characteristics... Green felt, gold ribbon, 7/8" hat band with bound brim. Anyway it came with two small tears on the crown and one spot that looks like it might be on the way... But it's the first time I've ever come across that color and the defects actually aren't visible when the crown is creased so I kept it and wear it.

I say wear it in good health and don't worry about it. And get a replacement when you run this one into the ground.
