Another "newbie" question: Where do you keep your fedora if it's one you wear often? It would seem ***bersome to use a hat box for something you wear most days but hanging it up on a hook would ruin the shape, wouldn't it? Just wondering what people do with their hats at home when they're not wearing them.

Hi, Felkor. I've been using the plastic stands that look like this: http://www.hatsinthebelfry.com/product/hat-rest-01031.htm both at home and at work. Strange to say, perhaps, but hooks don't reflect the way I relate to my hats. Also, I find that the hats lined up on a shelf in my bedroom are a pleasure to look at. It's one of the benefits of having a few nice hats. I hope the F/L forum proves useful and enjoyable for you. Ralph

Well, it's a bit of a caricature of a hat, isn't it? It's got a good amount of rake and a pretty substantial brim.

Today we were in Niagara-on-the-Lake and stopped by The Beau Chateau and they had a decent selection of feathers for a dollar a-piece. We picked out 4 or 5 of them, so I now have a few options.

Hi
I have two Fedoras that have soft brims, and one with a snap brim. I put lay them on top of my shoe boxes in the closet. Since I can snap the brims up and down, I'm not worried about screwing up the brim shape. I have a couple of cowboy hats that I leave in one of my two Hammer Plastics triple hat boxes, or my single Hammer Plastic hat box.
I don't have any interesting hat boxes (yet).

I have a great portis, you can see it in my photo to the left, but the brim seems to be curling too much on the sides and not in the back, what is up with that? Has this happened to anyone else? I've popped the brim the opposite direction in hopes of correcting this issue, but should there be anything else I should be trying?

Any sign of Biltmore having some kind of final, going-out-of-business sale? Wouldn't mind a drive to Guelph especially given our current balmy weather.
Yes, the Biltmore outlet store is having a sale. Their straw hats are all $50 and their felt hats are all around $75. We stopped by there yesterday to pick up another hat - figured I might as well with the discount. So now I have both a felt and straw fedora. 
From our conversations with them, it sounds like this Thursday will be the last day they are open.
They aren't exactly going out of business though - there will still be a Biltmore brand, with the same manager, and a few of the current staff members will be training those in the plant in Texas where the Biltmore line is moving. When my wife bought me my hat though, she got the very last hat box that says "Guelph, Ontario, Canada" on it.

I was in a hat store on the weekend and their most common hat was the Bailey brand from Bollman. They felt really stiff compared to the Biltmores and Stetsons that they had - I'm new to fedoras so I'm not sure what to make of that but they didn't feel as nice to me personally. However, judging by how many hats of this company the store had in stock, it seems they are probably doing fine.
