Recently I found a nice Cross Century fountain pen pencil set on ebay and got it for my wife. It is a red marbled lacquer finish, so definetly a ladies set.

It wroye so ninely I picked up one for myself.

The vintage Conway Stewart pens from England all seem to write well.

I've no experience with modern C/S's, but vintage and antique C/S's write very well. I have a few of them in my collection and they're excellent on paper.

For value, very hard to beat a Cross or Waterman FP. I am a huge fan of Pelikans, and if you can find a 150 they are fantastic daily writers for a very reasonable price.

I have a couple of Waterman fountain pens (not vintage). The least expensive one writes the best, ironically. I carry it most days.
