Last year I found myself in Tibet. Well, after a 15 hour flight, an overnight train, and a 6 hour bus ride, then another flight into Lhasa. But anyway, I got there.

I'm going to just post random pics instead of telling a story.

Potala Palace, the grandest of them all, home to many of the Dalai Lamas over the centuries. Unfortunately they don't allow pics inside, so this is all you get of the Palace:

I love ancient walls. I bet this one could tell a story:

these two women agreed to have their pictures taken with me as long as I didn't touch them. So I had to stand a bit behind them:

one day the locals invited us for "black feather chicken" for lunch. Tasty:

I saw these all over the place. It's a tractor motor on a pickup chassis:

no matter where you go, you have ditzy girls texting instead of paying attention to their surroundings:

a lot of Chinese go there as tourists themselves, for the exotic adventure. This local was dressed up to give them their money's worth as he led them along on ponies:

it's nice to see an American embassy from time to time:

it was interesting to see the peaks peeking up thru the clouds:

the yaks were cool:

one day we took a five hour bus ride to the highest salt water lake in the world. on the way we topped this peak, at 5,190 meters above sea level. It took my breath away. If I look stiff, I was. It was cold, even in June, and their was a wind blowing:

and finally we got to the lake. No one is allowed into the water because it's sacred. a goddess lives there. this guy makes his living with folks getting onto the yak for a pic:

I've never seen a society that loves their hats so much. I loved it. I was in good company:

I have no idea who this belonged to, probably a Buddhist who went into temple to worship:

even the monks love their hats:

this lady is spinning her prayer wheel. the Tibetans believe that their prayers are empowered as they spin these. I saw them everywhere, spinning as they walked:

Thanks Mr. Godfrey, it was grand indeed. I did try yak butter. I wouldn't want to make a habit of it, but I'm glad I tried it. It was a fascinating place.

Great pics Mattie, sure looks like fun and Congrats on your success!
I would love to hunt in Africa as well as Alaska and Canada.
Hopefully I will get drawn for elk and deer this year. The mountain country in Arizona is quite nice, but it would be great to elk hunt in the Rockies.
Upland birds and Elk are my favorite hunts. I would like to try goose and duck huunting someday.

I was fortunate enough to hunt 31B in Arizona just outside of Flagstaff. Saw elk every day, I got my bull and had a great hunt. We camped in the tent and "roughed it". Best part of it was a 20 minute back and forth bugling contest with a bull just after dark. He kept coming down the mountain and was tearing up the trees as he came. It was an amazing experience.
Was able to takes my oldest son, just home from Afghanistan, with me. We spent a day up at the Grand Canyon after I got my bull. It was a memorable hunt.

Congrats on the elk! And sounds like y'all had a good time! Every time I go afield for the mighty wapiti, I consider the hunt a success, if I get to hear them bugle! About the coolest sound I think you can hear in the woods!!!
