Hello fellow nerds!
So I acquired this damn fine jacket second hand at a great, great, price, it's like new, not a crease on her. It's no ****, a beautiful piece and one I couldn't normally afford. Alas, I am for the moment, fat.
It feels really great on, it is snug, one may even call it slightly tight when zipped. The sleeves are forming nicely and don't feel as long as when this picture was taken. I know it's a size or maybe two small, but I am hoping I can make it work with the right attitude and the needed loss of a dozen or so pounds.
My question, is all hope lost? Should I just flip it and save for a fat mans coat?
Many Thanks,

Leather jacket is very unforgiving. You’re better off trade or flip it and buy your size. You can even buy the same jacket in your correct size if you like the jacket that much, but that jacket that you have is at least 2 sizes too small and ain’t going to fit you. For a jacket that fits, you should be able to zip it up and move your arms up comfortably.

Schott is fairly easy to sell and re-acquire. You should let it go.

Friend, welcome to the club. That is the taco club, lol. One question, are the tacos homemade? If they are, it will be much more difficult to lose those pounds. Now, If you are overweight and want to get in to smaller size clothes than your current size, then that is the way to go in my book. However, it appears you are about two size bigger than the jacket. There are some x-zip jackets that give you more room. This metropolitan Detroit (copy of a Buco model) is a good option for you. They run much roomier than your 613sh. Here is an example of them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/325913604309. P.M. if you have any other questions.

Use it as motivation to lose the weight. It really is as simple as energy in vs energy out. It may not be easy but too many people over complicate it these days. Eat less, move more.

You really can lose weight but you cannot un-sell a great jacket.

Which size is it?

I'm pretty sure there's someone here who posted about wanting to size down in this jacket. Maybe you could trade?

It's a trim pattern and the leather is rather stiff. Both Tom and I got it in a size bigger than we otherwise would (and I think maybe I could have gone up one more). If you like this cut but are open to a more flexible leather, you could probably trade for a 519.

I think trades could serve you well because this jacket is a known and very desired quantity.

At the very least you could buy a jacket you like every bit as much, which fits, here for the same price you sell this one.

Welcome as well! I also enjoy tacos and share the love of leather jackets and a good taco or two every so often.

100% agree with the weight journey and more Move-Ment. Do all you can, while you are younger as well, pays huge dividends and you just feel so much better.

That said, the Schott jackets as others have stated run small, it's a good one to flip and or trade. Maybe consider just going one size up and work into that one. Best of luck with the hunt and the journey that is fitness. :)

If you got it for a great price, you are not in need of the money you could get for it and/or you wouldn't be able to sell it for that much, I would keep it and try to shed the weight. This is simply because if you sell it and then lose the weight, you'll regret it so ever much.

Start being active doing cardio (running, swimming, cycling, whatever you may like) and keep the tacos (just not often :p).

Hey, I really appreciate it. I have to lose the weight, regardless. In a past life I used to be a cyclist , I know I can do it, gonna focus on the good council here and get some early am rides on the schedule. The jacket itself is a flawless victory, I think I’ll plan on degrowing into it. Seems like a good bunch around here , I dig the candor.

Seconded. There are a few 613SH for sale around here. It IS a slim fitting pattern.

Good luck on the weight journey. I just lost 10kg after not being able to work out following a spinal injury. It takes a plan and the discipline to see it through but not more than that. As a former athlete, you know the drill.

Welcome!

Thats a great jacket but not a very forgiving pattern if you’ve a bit of a gut. What size is the Perfecto and what size jacket do you think you might need? Putting that out there might bring some interesting trade offers.

I have an Aero Café Racer that keeps me honest in terms of weight. A CR in size 42 is slightly too tight and a size 44 is slightly too loose. The only thing for it is something like swimming and possibly a kettlebell. Day on, rest day (or two if you need it) and maintain a frequency while cutting down on carbs and upping protein. For me, going vegetarian for several meals a week helps, too.

Use it as a motivator and maybe get some fitness coaching and a plan! Walking, swimming etc, cutting back and being careful with alcohol all help. Myself spending lots of time poolside and out with the dog, more focussed on input and output & less booze has borne good results and quite quickly ( just got to keep it off now). Good luck in your endeavour….

Great thread title indeed !

I had some medical dramas last year leading to drop off in metabolism and resultant weight gain. 7Kg or so

jackets that were a good fit 3 years ago became either "squeezy" and some depending on pattern a complete no go

Slow process "restructuring" but it's happening, all spurred on by a Vanson Raid bought thru this forum.

Every second day sea swimming until mid June ( it's now winter here in Australia remember !).

Vanson Raid fits fine now (albeit T shirt only) and some of the no go jackets are still so, but light visible at tunnel's end.

The "squeezy" ones I am back into with more room to go. So it can be done and you can do it ??

just as well my "male modelling" days are well behind me haha...

PPS just this year a Taco Bell opened on one of our normal motorcycle run routes,,,the Devil's temptation and I likes it !

Jethro Tull has got the answer: "you're never too old old old, to rock n roll 'ol 'ol, if you're too young to die".

For heaven's sake, keep the jacket. Just lose the pounds. Looks like you could stand to lose a good 20 lbs. The jacket looks great. On the Schott site, a new one is over $1,000 US.

Besides the cycling, you could take a 20-30 minute walk everyday or walk up and down stairs, which is a great cardio workout without having to go anywhere. Plus, could do calisthenics like pushups, squats, leg raises, crunches. Even do some shadow boxing in the mirror. None of it requires a gym membership. Can even buy a pair of adjustable dumbbells with a few small plates to start. (I like York barbells and weights.) One last suggestion, Arnold Schwarzeneggar's book, "Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder" is a great read & motivator.

Love this thread, hilarious sense of humor! Good luck & if you have questions, ask away, I'd love to help! And please do post pics with the jacket in a year or two after dropping the pounds!
