It is straw, but I think Picot refers to the weave of the braid. It offers pretty good ventilation as seen in the interior pic.

Thanks! I saw one & maybe too small & size & brim but thought I'd expand my knowledge. Thing with older hats is the leather sweatband could be shot. I've been lucky with my purchases & all in fine conditions but when you jump down from 70's 80's to 60's getting a snap, crackle pop band might just be on the table.
