I used a few dabs of micron sized superglue to strengthen any flaking as you so accurately described. Turned out great so far, but let's see how it works this fall.

I tried this,wrecked a beautiful vanson Enfields zipper, I have 30yr old schotts that don't have this issue, you shouldn't have to doctor a new jacket to stop this happening. I now use fabric glue and sail tape on every vanson I own.

Fabric glue and sale tape? Ayeee. Thank you. Hopefully successful with my vanson comet size 44 — coming up when I try using it out this fall. And I 100% agree. My new to me vanson police jacket is missing teeth and pins on its saltwater proof factory zipper.

Do you encapsulate the plastic parts with fabric glue or sail tape?
I've used fabric glue for thinning interior liner on a Levi's made and crafted cafe racer, works to keep it from fading away (friction).

I now cut a thin strip of sail tape and insert it onto the tape at the insertion pin,wee bit of fabric glue and clamp my leatherman wave needle nose pliers with mole grips overnight, works a treat.ive had new vanson jackets fray after a couple of zip uses, not good.
