The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

I picked up this beautiful milk chocolate Borsalino homburg from another TFL member (thanks, Ken). The felt is very soft and crushable - definitely vintage! A 5 inch crown, as creased, a 2 1/4 inch curled and bound brim, and a 1 1/2 inch matching ribbon. The brim curl is not a D'Orsay, but with a nice sharp fold, it's not far off.

Superior quality? Hardly. Extra Superior? That's so last year, don't you think? This hat is an Extra Extra Superior quality! Wow, could this be the first 1000X Borso :)

One of our resident Borsalino historians, Stefan @steur tells me this is a fairly common Borso model in the `36 - '53 period.

I know I'll enjoy this one for many years to come.

This one was in an absolute state when it arrived, but Daniele felt it was worth saving and I agree with him. Both the sweatband and liner were glued to the felt and it was a chore to get that off and sow the sweatband (or what is left of it) back in.
Borsalino backbow fedora in a brown heather colour called misto galla. Can't make out the name on what is left of the label. Used to be a size 58 (not today though). Raw edge brim at 5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent.

Had this for quite some time, finally finished a VERY slow and gentle stretching. Borsalino Marque Grand Luxe Ecosti, in "Dattero" color. Tag, according to Stefan's excellent research back in 2019, was in use from 1936 to 1953. Since the MGL came into being in the early 50s, I figure this one was born between 50 and 53. Price was, unbelievably, less than $30.

@steur Stefan, the Big Orange Wave is already here & taken over one of my favorite sports bars, saving their seats for Thursday nights WC match. The bad news is it’s supposed to be raining during the match.
Oops, sorry to hear you could find your seat taken, Jack. It would be too much to ask you to wear an orange clog on your head, but anything orange as an accesory will do to fit right in. The orange stadium walk isn't a tradition for that long actually: it started in 2004 in Portugal and has geen going since. The weather could be a spoiler but it could be a good part of the fans won't even notice by that time ;)

My favorite barkeep told me she could save me a seat but I told her I would gladly give it up to anyone who traveled so far to support their team. I told her I would be back when this is all over.

They were able to get the orange fan walk (estimated @ 10K) in this morning without any rain. The concern during the match is not for severe rain but there could be some lightning delays.
