I was wondering if anyone can comment on these hats construction? I've seen several on Ebay and really like the styles, the prices vary wildly and the best description I see of construction is "wool blend." That being said the texture does look a bit like wool but the liners, sweatbands and general construction look very nice for wool, also no mentions in the pics I see of "wool" or "lano", but also no mention of fur or rabbit.I tend to be leary of wool constructions because of water damages and general longevity. If anybody has any input I would appreciate it.Do you suppose those stars are like x's?

Ha! This question seems made for me.
I have had Fernández y Roche and other sombreros cordobeses in my hands, and they are made of wool, and scratchy wool at that. One arrived to my brother-in-law's in Texas that I threw out when I touched it.

I found a couple made of rabbit in Spain, but they all felt cheap. They are made for tourists.
I asked Rick of Phoenix Hat company to make one for me in 100% beaver, and he did. It is beautiful. It is the first one, in brown. The black one is the one I threw out. I could've cleaned it, but it wasn't worth it.

I recently bought a fedora from this company. Nice looking hat, but made of cheap materials. Synthetic poly inside and a synthetic cheap sweatband that doesn't make for a nice feel on the head.

Where did you buy yours? I have one as well (and have had others) and I rather enjoy it. It is a nicely made, modern, fur felt fedora.

Is it all synthetic inside? It can be hard to tell sometimes, but mine certainly is. Has a really cheap sweatband.

Like you said, a nice modern fur felt hat.

I bought this from a supposed highend shop that sells legal wear and it was a decent price too.

I was nearly going to buy the brown one too, but decided it was better money spend to order a custom one from a hat maker.

Here is my other Roche, a sombrero. It is quite a good hat.

This maker makes very nice traditionally handmade ones, I tried some on years ago at their Seville shop. The higher quality ones have a great hand and feel great o the head. I believe they are traditionally mostly made from soft Spanish Merino wool. There are also a few small makers still existing that are sold in the traditional riding equipment shops, along with the gorgeous handmade riding boots and such:

These are decent hats, made from 180g merino:

Signes also make nice ones, this is their line of proper Cordobes ones :

I love them but have never bought one as I find them difficult to match with clothing, they look out of place outsidfe their natural environment to me, as well. But I'd consider wearing a straw version, though I've not found one I like in a long oval.

The Cordobes hats are something l have liked for a long time, but like you said it is really difficult to style them outside of their natural environment. I have the straw version but the panama is a much more stylish touch.
