It will be the first of 2026, but I can't resist these sharkgills.

Glad you got those. I was thinking of getting in on them, but I'm glad they went to a nice home. Make sure you post in the Worth Walden thread when you get that Deluxe fixed up.

I was considering picking that one up but didn't feel like taking the gamble that day on whether it's actually a Stetson or a hat someone stuck a Stetson liner in. No size tag, the re-order tag didn't look like any Stetson I'd ever seen and only that weird stamp on the sweatband that looked to be early 60s. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the sweatband embossment but no dice.

Tell us about it and show some more pics when you get it!

My first hat purchase since my first ever purchase of a 30s era Carlsbad a while back, figured this one was worth pulling the trigger for - looks to be a 50s or 60s Stetson Open Road (not really sure on dating), looks pretty much NOS with the packaging.

Stetson Number 1 Quality, with about 3 inch brim. Dates 1930's to early '40's, depending on if I can read the Lot Number.

in 1973 I went the American Hat store in downtown in Houston, Tx and bought myself a new Dark brown American Maxi Felt Open crown hat. They werent the finest hat by any means ( wool) but they had the reputation of being built like tanks. All the cool kids without rich parents had American Maxi Felts for their winter hats. I fiddled with it for a couple days trying to shape by myself, before I took it back down and got the nice folks to shape it....

Fast forward to February 15 2026.....nostalgia came back to bite me. I found ( and bought) a new-in-the-box unshaped Open Crown Brown American Maxifelt in 7-1/4 LO for about $100 and free shipping. Sweatband even has the old Preston St address where I bought mine. ( this will make two American hats on my wall from the Preston St store plus one from the Hat Store when the grandson moved from that location in the 80s. Cant wait to see what a new-in-the-box open crown looks like after sitting in a box for 53 yrs! Being a Houston kid from back then I just had to have it.

Cant wait... cant wait... cant wait

With tremendous thanks to @belfastboy , I am waiting for the arrival of this Vimenet tuxedo hat that he and Mrs. Gault worked on to restore to it's 1910's glory. Both he and I have posted on this one in the past (me, when I bought it, him when he started work). The finished product should reach me in Atlanta this week and will join its brethren on the journey to Israel.
