When your work day sees you climbing onto the hood of a car, then scaling a chain link fence; you need a certain quality of shoe. And it's not a heritage boot.

It can be.
The " tactical boot " Nick's released a few years ago definitely fits the bill.

For a lot of LEO's who know or care about footwear the Danner Acadia seems to be the top line choice for most of these people from what I've seen / heard.
I don't know what's inside them, but they are certainly not a disposable Chinese made 511 boot.

It all depends on how the agency handles their uniforming. Some agencies don't give you a choice. They have whatever boot that everyone gets, and that's it. Some agencies pay you a uniform allowance, and you get whatever you want. Some agencies allow you to use a uniform supplier, and you can pick and choose from different models which meet the uniform specification.

The more popular Danner models are made for cold weather. Gore-Tex and Thinsulate. High traction sole. From what I can remember, these are also stitchdown construction. I don't know how many cops are sending their boots in to be resoled. I can only imagine what a season of snow, ice, slush - mixed with road salt, does to the uppers. Most agencies that issue Footwer; usually issue it once a year. A beat cop or highway trooper only needs that boot to last for a year until he gets another pair.

I can see cops in Seattle getting Danner boots. I don't see that happening in San Diego, Las Vegas, etc.
